FAIRBORN, Ohio (Interstat) ā Two Horizon League teams looking to build momentum will meet when the Oakland Golden Grizzlies visit the Wright State Raiders on Monday, Dec. 29, at the Ervin J. Nutter Center. Both teams enter the contest with identical 6-7 overall records. Oakland is coming off a 70-79 loss at Michigan State on Dec. 20, while Wright State earned a 70-64 home victory over Eastern Michigan on Dec. 22. The matchup features a key battle in the frontcourt. Oaklandās Tuburu Naivalurua is averaging 12.0 points per game and is coming off an 18-point, 5-rebound performance against the Spartans. Over his last five games, the forward has shown scoring bursts, including another 18-point outing in a 98-97 win over Toledo on Dec. 6. Wright State will counter with guard TJ Burch, who is averaging 9.1 points per game. Burch posted 12 points and three assists in the win over Eastern Michigan and scored 14 in a narrow 68-69 loss at Youngstown State on Dec. 3. His backcourt play will be crucial against Oaklandās perimeter defense. Oaklandās offense has been potent in victories, scoring over 98 points in three of its wins this season. However, consistency has been an issue, as evidenced by a 45-point outing in a November loss at Houston. Wright Stateās defense, which held Green Bay to 58 points on Dec. 7, will be tested. The Raiders hold a slight home-court advantage early this season, having gone 4-2 in Fairborn. Oakland is 2-5 in true road games. This contest is the first of two regular-season meetings between the teams, with the rematch scheduled for Jan. 11 in Rochester, Michigan. The game tips off at 7 p.m. EST as both teams seek a winning record before Horizon League play intensifies in the new year.
