NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Interstat) — The undefeated and No. 6-ranked Vanderbilt Commodores host the New Haven Chargers in a nonconference men’s basketball matchup Monday at Memorial Gymnasium. Vanderbilt (12-0) enters the contest as one of the nation’s remaining unbeatens, fresh off a dominant 98-67 road victory at Wake Forest on Dec. 21. The Commodores’ high-powered offense, averaging 88.8 points per game, is led by guard Duke Miles. The senior is coming off a 17-point, 9-assist performance against the Demon Deacons and has scored 22 and 17 points in his last two outings. New Haven (5-7), a Division I independent, faces its fourth consecutive road game and sixth power-conference opponent this season. The Chargers have lost three straight, including a 47-65 defeat at Fordham on Dec. 22 where they shot just 28.8% from the field. Forward Stefano Faloppa, who posted 10 points and nine rebounds in a narrow loss at Boston College earlier this month, will be a key factor for the Chargers as they seek an offensive spark. The game represents a final tune-up for Vanderbilt before Southeastern Conference play begins next week. The Commodores’ perfect start includes neutral-site wins over Saint Mary’s and VCU, plus a road overtime victory at Memphis. New Haven, which has wins over Delaware State and UMass-Lowell, will look to replicate its strong defensive effort from a November victory against Mitchell, where Faloppa scored 14 points. This is the first meeting between the programs. Vanderbilt has won 18 consecutive nonconference home games dating back to November 2023. Following this contest, Vanderbilt opens SEC play at South Carolina on Jan. 3, while New Haven begins a stretch of Northeast Conference games at Stonehill on Jan. 2. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
