ST. GEORGE, Utah (Interstat) β In-state Western Athletic Conference rivals Southern Utah and Utah Tech meet Monday night at Burns Arena, with the Trailblazers looking to even their season record and the Thunderbirds aiming to halt a four-game skid. Utah Tech (7-7) enters the non-conference matchup on steadier footing, having split its last four games. The Trailblazers are coming off an 82-80 road win at Weber State on Dec. 20 before a 92-69 loss at Creighton on Dec. 22. Forward Jusaun Holt has been a consistent contributor, averaging 10.8 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game. He scored 16 points in the loss at Creighton. Southern Utah (4-9) has lost four straight, most recently a 65-57 defeat at Northern Arizona on Dec. 18. The Thunderbirds have struggled offensively during the losing streak, failing to reach 70 points in any of the four games. Guard Zach Bell, who logged 37 minutes and scored 12 points against Northern Arizona, will be a key to generating offense. The game is the first of two scheduled meetings this season between the programs, with the rematch set for Jan. 24, also at Burns Arena. Both teams open WAC play next week. Mondayβs contest tips off at 7 p.m. MST.
