Preview: Jackson State at TCU FORT WORTH, Texas (Interstat) ā A surging TCU looks to continue its nonconference success when it hosts struggling Jackson State in a menās basketball matchup Monday night at Dickies Arena. The Horned Frogs (9-3) enter on a four-game winning streak, most recently an 80-56 rout of Florida A&M on Dec. 21. TCU has relied on balanced scoring and defense, holding opponents to an average of 60.5 points during the streak. A key contributor has been forward Xavier Edmonds, who is coming off a career-high 21 points and seven rebounds in just 19 minutes against Florida A&M. Over his last five games, the sophomore is averaging 11.6 points. They face a Jackson State team (1-11) mired in an eight-game skid. The Tigersā lone win came against Louisiana-Lafayette on Nov. 28, and they have faced a brutal road schedule with losses at Houston, Auburn, Arkansas and Northwestern. The Tigersā offense runs through dynamic guard Daeshun Ruffin. Despite the teamās struggles, the senior has been prolific, scoring 25 or more points in three of his last five games. He erupted for 36 points in a loss to Hampton on Dec. 18 and averages 23.0 points per game during that stretch. TCUās defense, which ranks among the nationās best in field goal percentage allowed, will aim to contain Ruffin and force other Tigers to beat them. Jackson State has failed to reach 75 points in 10 of its 12 games. This game serves as a final tune-up for both teams before league play begins. TCU opens its Big 12 Conference schedule at home against Baylor on Jan. 3, a gauntlet that includes games against Kansas, Arizona and Houston in January. Jackson State begins Southwestern Athletic Conference action at home against Alcorn State on Jan. 3. The Horned Frogs have dominated at home this season, going 6-1, with the only loss a double-overtime defeat to Notre Dame. Jackson State is 0-9 in true road games. Mondayās contest tips off at 7 p.m. CST.
