LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Interstat) ā Two Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference menās basketball teams seeking momentum will meet Monday when the Manhattan Jaspers visit the Rider Broncs at Alumni Gymnasium. Manhattan (5-8) enters on a high note after an 87-81 home victory over Presbyterian on Dec. 21, which snapped a three-game skid. The Jaspersā offense was fueled by a trio of double-digit scorers in that win: Devin Dinkins (19 points), Jaden Winston (17 points, 8 assists) and Anthony Isaac (12 points, 16 rebounds). Isaac, a player to watch, is coming off a dominant rebounding performance and has averaged 12.0 points and 8.2 rebounds over his last five games. Conversely, Rider (1-10) looks to halt a seven-game losing streak. The Broncs fell 100-79 at VCU in their most recent outing on Dec. 22. Caleb Smith, Riderās key player, led the team with 13 points in that contest. Over his last five games, Smith has averaged 6.4 points. The matchup pits Manhattanās recent offensive surge against a Rider squad that has struggled defensively, allowing an average of 78.5 points during its losing streak. The Jaspers have shown they can win close games, with two of their five victories coming by four points or fewer. This game opens a critical stretch of MAAC play for both programs. For Rider, it represents a prime opportunity to secure just its second win of the season and gain confidence before hosting Siena on Jan. 4. Manhattan aims to build a winning streak before hosting Quinnipiac on Jan. 2. Mondayās contest will be the first of two regular-season meetings between the schools, with the rematch scheduled for Jan. 30 at Manhattan.
