NORMAN, Okla. (Interstat) — The Oklahoma Sooners look to close their non-conference schedule with momentum when they host the struggling Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils on Monday night at Lloyd Noble Center. Oklahoma (9-3) enters the contest riding a three-game winning streak, including a dominant 107-54 victory over Stetson on Dec. 22. The Sooners have showcased a potent offense, averaging 86.2 points per game during their current homestand. Guard Xzayvier Brown has been a catalyst, averaging 20 points over his last three games. He scored 18 points in 25 minutes against Stetson. Forward Derrion Reid added 22 points in that win, part of a balanced attack that has seen Oklahoma win by an average of 33 points in its last two home games. Mississippi Valley State (1-12) faces a steep challenge, seeking to snap a 12-game losing streak. The Delta Devils are coming off a 51-86 loss at West Virginia on Dec. 22, part of a grueling road stretch where they have lost all 12 games away from Itta Bena. Their lone win came at home against a non-Division I opponent. Guard X’Zaevion Barnett is a player to watch for the Delta Devils, averaging 7.8 points and 2.8 assists over his last five contests. He led the team with 11 points in a Dec. 19 loss at Florida State. Michael James, who scored a team-high 14 points at West Virginia, will also be relied upon for offensive production. The matchup pits one of the nation’s toughest defenses against one of its most challenged offenses. Oklahoma has held opponents to 40.2% shooting from the field this season, while Mississippi Valley State has struggled to score, failing to reach 65 points in nine of its 12 losses and facing a significant rebound margin deficit. This game concludes the Delta Devils’ arduous non-conference slate before they open Southwestern Athletic Conference play at home on Jan. 3. For Oklahoma, it serves as a final tune-up before beginning Southeastern Conference competition against Mississippi on Jan. 3. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CST. Following this game, Oklahoma will host Mississippi, while Mississippi Valley State returns home to face Alabama State.
