Iona Gaels Look to Extend Win Streak Against Mount Saint Mary’s Mountaineers EMMITSBURG, Md. (Interstat) — The Iona Gaels, riding a three-game win streak, will visit the Mount Saint Mary’s Mountaineers in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference men’s basketball matchup on Monday, Dec. 29, at Knott Arena. Iona (9-4) enters with momentum after an 83-78 road victory at Vermont on Dec. 20. The Gaels’ offense has been potent during their streak, averaging 77.7 points per game in wins over Bryant, Sacred Heart and the Catamounts. Mount Saint Mary’s (4-9) snapped a two-game skid with a 73-42 home win over Penn State Brandywine on Dec. 21. The Mountaineers have struggled against Division I competition, with their last win against a D-I opponent coming at Loyola Maryland on Dec. 13. A key matchup will feature Iona’s high-scoring guard Toby Harris against Mount Saint Mary’s forward Trey Deveaux. Harris is averaging 14.1 points per game and is coming off a season-high 26-point performance at Vermont. Over his last seven games, he has scored in double figures five times. Deveaux provides interior presence for the Mountaineers, posting a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds in the win over Brandywine. He has averaged 11.8 points and 6.0 rebounds over his last four contests. Iona’s backcourt, led by Harris and Keshawn Williams (20 points vs. Vermont), will test a Mountaineers defense allowing 75.2 points per game. Mount Saint Mary’s will look to control the tempo and leverage home court, where they are 3-2 this season. This game opens the MAAC schedule for both teams. Iona will look to establish itself as a conference contender, while the Mountaineers aim to improve upon a non-conference record that included competitive losses to Maryland and Drexel. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST. Iona’s next game is at home against Siena on Jan. 2. Mount Saint Mary’s travels to face Merrimack on the same date.
