Alcorn State Braves Look to End Skid Against Mississippi Rebels UNIVERSITY, Miss. (Interstat) — The Alcorn State Braves, mired in a 10-game losing streak, face a steep challenge when they visit the Mississippi Rebels at The Pavilion on Monday night. Alcorn State (1-10) enters following a 113-56 road loss at then-Baylor on Dec. 19, a game that typified its difficult non-conference schedule. The Braves’ lone win came against Indiana State (81-74) on Nov. 28, but they have since faced a gauntlet of high-major opponents, losing by an average margin of 32.2 points over their last five games. Mississippi (7-5) seeks to rebound after a 76-62 loss at North Carolina State on Dec. 21 snapped a two-game winning streak. The Rebels are 6-1 at home this season, with the only blemish a 75-66 defeat to Miami (Fla.) on Dec. 2. A key matchup will feature Alcorn State guard Shane Lancaster against Mississippi forward Malik Dia. Lancaster has been a bright spot during the Braves’ struggles, scoring 17 points at Baylor and 16 at Iowa State. He will need a high-output performance to keep Alcorn State competitive. Dia has emerged as a force for the Rebels, averaging 17.1 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. He is coming off a 20-point, 11-rebound double-double against NC State and a 27-point effort in a win over Alabama A&M. For Alcorn State, this game concludes a brutal stretch of 11 consecutive road games to open the season. The Braves begin Southwestern Athletic Conference play at home against Southern on Dec. 31. Mississippi opens Southeastern Conference play at Oklahoma on Jan. 3. This contest serves as a final tune-up, and the Rebels will be heavily favored against an Alcorn State team that ranks near the bottom nationally in scoring margin. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CST. The game will be broadcast on the SEC Network+.
