AMES, Iowa (Interstat) — The unbeaten and fourth-ranked Iowa State Cyclones return from a holiday break to host the Houston Christian Huskies in a nonconference men’s basketball game Monday night at Hilton Coliseum. Iowa State (12-0) is one of the nation’s few remaining undefeated teams and has dominated its schedule, winning by an average margin of 33.8 points. Its most impressive victory came on the road, an 81-58 dismantling of then-Purdue on Dec. 6. The Cyclones have not played since a 91-60 rout of Long Beach State on Dec. 21. Sophomore forward Milan Momcilovic has been a standout for the Cyclones, averaging 20.4 points per game. He is coming off a 27-point performance against Long Beach State and has scored 18 or more in four of his last five games. Iowa State’s balanced attack also features key contributors Joshua Jefferson and Blake Buchanan. Houston Christian (5-7) enters on a three-game losing streak, most recently falling 79-64 at Nicholls State on Dec. 17. The Huskies, who compete in the Southland Conference, are 1-6 in road games this season. Guard Ryan Bartley leads Houston Christian, averaging 11.9 points per game. He scored 13 points in the loss to Nicholls State and had a season-high 16 points in an 85-76 win at New Orleans on Dec. 6. Demarco Bethea and Demari Williams have also provided scoring punch. This marks the first meeting between the programs. Iowa State opens Big 12 Conference play at home against West Virginia on Jan. 2. Houston Christian begins Southland Conference play at Incarnate Word on Jan. 3. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. CST.
