STEWART MANOR, N.Y. (Interstat) — A surging Hofstra looks to continue its strong non-conference play when it hosts Campbell in a Colonial Athletic Association men’s basketball matchup Monday at Mack Sports Complex. The Pride (9-4) enter on a four-game winning streak, highlighted by a 70-69 road victory at Syracuse on Dec. 13 and a 74-66 home win over Quinnipiac on Dec. 21. Hofstra’s success has been fueled by guard Cruz Davis, who is averaging 26.5 points over his last four games. Davis scored 36 points in a win at Pittsburgh and followed with 27 points against Quinnipiac, playing all 40 minutes in both contests. Campbell (6-7) seeks consistency after a split in its last two outings. The Fightin’ Camels were routed 78-50 at Minnesota on Dec. 21 but responded with a 102-79 home win over Green Bay two days later. Guard Jeremiah Johnson led that charge, scoring 27 points in 36 minutes. Johnson has been a focal point, averaging 17.5 points over his last two games after being held to single digits in the two prior contests. The game represents the conference opener for both teams. Hofstra has shown resilience in close games, with three of its last five wins coming by four points or fewer. Campbell, meanwhile, has struggled on the road against high-major opponents, suffering blowout losses at Gonzaga, Minnesota and Wake Forest this season. Defensively, Hofstra will rely on forward Victory Onuetu, who recorded 11 rebounds and four blocks against Quinnipiac. Campbell will need secondary scoring beyond Johnson; DJ Smith added 20 points and Dovydas Butka had a well-rounded 14 points, seven rebounds and four assists in the win over Green Bay. Following this game, Campbell visits Monmouth on Wednesday. Hofstra’s next CAA game is at Drexel on Jan. 3.
