HAMPTON, Va. (Interstat) — The Hampton Pirates will look to snap a two-game skid when they host the Stony Brook Seawolves in a nonconference men’s basketball matchup at the Convocation Center on Monday, Dec. 29, 2025. Both teams enter the final stretch of their non-league schedules before Colonial Athletic Association play begins next week. Hampton (6-7) seeks to rebound from an 81-72 home loss to Grambling on Dec. 19. The Pirates had won three straight prior to that defeat. A key for Hampton will be the play of guard Jalyke Gaines-Wyatt, who is coming off a 22-point, 5-assist performance against Grambling. Over his last four games, he is averaging 17 points, showing a consistent scoring punch for the Pirates’ offense. Stony Brook (8-5) arrives after a difficult 70-51 road loss at Marist on Dec. 21, a game in which the Seawolves shot just 30.4% from the field. It was their second consecutive loss following a defeat against Albany. The Seawolves will rely on forward Quin Gorman to provide stability. Gorman is a consistent presence in the frontcourt, averaging 6.0 points and 4.0 rebounds over his last five contests. His defensive activity, including multiple blocks in three of those games, will be crucial against Hampton. This game represents a final tune-up for both programs. Stony Brook opens its CAA slate at William & Mary on Dec. 31, while Hampton begins conference play at home against Towson the same day. Monday’s contest offers a chance for both to build momentum, with Hampton holding a slight edge playing on its home floor. The Pirates lead the all-time series 2-1, though the teams have not met since 2019. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. EST.
