CHARLESTON, S.C. (Interstat) — A pair of teams riding winning streaks will meet Monday when the College of Charleston Cougars host the Drexel Dragons in a Colonial Athletic Association men’s basketball matchup at TD Arena. The Cougars (7-6) have won three straight, most recently an 85-74 road victory over Northern Kentucky on Dec. 21. The Dragons (6-7) have won two in a row, including a 74-56 home win over Maine that same day. Monday’s game features two of the conference’s top guards in contrasting forms. Charleston is powered by the hot hand of Jlynn Counter, who is coming off a dominant performance with 26 points, 11 rebounds and six assists against Northern Kentucky. Over the last three games, all wins, Counter has averaged 21.7 points and 5.3 assists. Drexel will counter with the steady play of Eli Beard. While not a high-volume scorer, Beard has been a consistent facilitator, averaging 4.2 assists over his last five contests. He posted 12 points, five rebounds and four assists in the win over Maine. The Cougars’ recent surge has been marked by efficient offense, scoring at least 74 points in each game during their streak. Beyond Counter, forward Christian Reeves provides an interior presence, notching a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds off the bench last time out. Drexel’s winning formula has relied on defense, holding its last two opponents under 70 points. Victor Panov (19 points vs. Maine) and Shane Blakeney (14 points, 4 assists) offer supplemental scoring behind Beard. Historically, Charleston holds a narrow edge in the series, but both teams enter conference play looking to build momentum. The Cougars will aim to protect their home court, where they are 4-2 this season, while the Dragons seek their first true road win since November. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. tipoff. Charleston will travel to face Elon on Wednesday, while Drexel visits UNC Wilmington to close out the calendar year.
