Preview: IU Indy Jaguars at Cleveland State Vikings CLEVELAND (Interstat) — Two Horizon League men’s basketball teams seeking a spark to turn around their seasons will meet Monday when the Cleveland State Vikings host the IU Indy Jaguars at Wolstein Center. Both teams enter the non-conference finale with identical 4-10 overall records. The matchup offers a final opportunity to build momentum before the heart of the league schedule resumes in January. The Jaguars are looking to rebound from a 91-78 road loss at Grand Canyon on Dec. 22. IU Indy has dropped four of its last five games, with the lone win in that stretch a 126-73 rout of non-Division I Miami-Middletown. IU Indy will lean on guard Kyler D’Augustino, who is coming off a 24-point performance in 34 minutes against Grand Canyon. Over his last five games, D’Augustino is averaging 15.8 points per contest. Cleveland State has also struggled, losing four of its last five, including a 71-81 home loss to Milwaukee on Dec. 21. The Vikings’ defense has been a concern, allowing an average of 86.2 points in those four losses. The Vikings counter with their own standout guard in Ice Emery. He has provided consistent scoring, averaging 22 points over his last two games against Division I opponents, including a 25-point outing at UAB. Recent history shows both teams have faced similar challenges. IU Indy fell to Youngstown State 78-55 on Dec. 6, while Cleveland State lost to Detroit 71-59 the same day. The Jaguars’ last road victory was at Eastern Michigan on Nov. 14. Monday’s game represents a critical chance for either squad to gain confidence and climb from the lower tier of the league standings before conference play intensifies. The Vikings will begin a three-game road trip after this contest, while the Jaguars open January at Northern Kentucky. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
