AUBURN, Ala. (Interstat) — The Auburn Tigers look to rebound from a lopsided road loss when they host the Queens (N.C.) Royals in nonconference men’s basketball action Monday night at Auburn Arena. Auburn (8-4) enters the contest following a 60-88 defeat at then-Purdue on Dec. 20, a game in which the Tigers struggled offensively, shooting just 32.8% from the field. The Tigers will rely on guard Kevin Overton, who scored 22 points in 36 minutes against the Boilermakers. Overton has been a key scorer, including a 29-point performance in an 83-73 win over North Carolina State on Dec. 3. Queens (5-7) seeks to end a two-game skid against Power Five opponents, having lost 111-73 at Wake Forest on Dec. 14 and 108-80 at Arkansas on Dec. 16. The Royals are led by guard Jordan Watford, who posted 11 points and five assists in the loss to the Razorbacks. Watford has been a consistent facilitator, averaging 6.5 assists over his last four games. The matchup pits Auburn’s defense, which held opponents to 62.8 points per game at home this season, against a Queens offense that averages 84.2 points but has been held under 81 in all seven losses. The Royals have faced a challenging schedule, with all seven defeats coming against high-major opponents or teams with winning records. Auburn holds a distinct advantage in experience and depth, playing its final tune-up before opening Southeastern Conference play at Georgia on Jan. 3. Queens begins Atlantic Sun Conference action on Jan. 1. This is the first meeting between the programs. Auburn is 6-0 at home this season, while Queens is 0-6 in true road games. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. EST.
