TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (Interstat) — A surging Yale team riding a seven-game win streak faces its toughest test of the season Monday night when the Bulldogs visit Alabama at Coleman Coliseum. The Ivy League’s Yale Bulldogs (10-1) have not played since a 93-82 home win over Albany on Dec. 10, a layoff of 19 days. Their lone loss came against Rhode Island in November, and their resume includes road wins at Vermont and Akron. Balance has been key, with Jordan Brathwaite (16 points), Trevor Mullin (11 points, 8 assists) and Nick Townsend (12 points) leading the way in their last outing. The Southeastern Conference’s Alabama Crimson Tide (9-3), however, presents a dramatic step up in competition. Ranked ninth nationally, Nate Oats’ squad is 7-0 at home this season, averaging 105 points in those contests. Their three losses have come against current Top 25 foes Arizona, Gonzaga and Purdue. A player to watch for Alabama is sophomore forward Aiden Sherrell, who is coming off a 21-point, 7-rebound performance in a 92-81 win over Kennesaw State on Dec. 21. Sherrell has been a defensive force, blocking 22 shots over the Tide’s last five games. This non-conference clash pits Yale’s methodical, efficient style against Alabama’s relentless, high-paced attack. The Crimson Tide lead the nation in scoring offense at 98.2 points per game, while Yale allows just 70.5 points per contest and has held its last three opponents under 67. For Yale, a strong showing could provide a crucial resume boost for March. For Alabama, it’s a final tune-up before opening SEC play at home against Kentucky on Jan. 3. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. EST Monday.
