Preview: Central Michigan at Wisconsin MADISON, Wis. (Interstat) β The Wisconsin Badgers look to rebound from a tough overtime loss when they host the struggling Central Michigan Chippewas in a nonconference menβs basketball game Monday night at Kohl Center. Wisconsin (7-4) fell 76-66 in overtime to Villanova on Friday despite a career-high 43 minutes and 23 points from forward Nolan Winter. The Badgers have shown promise with wins over ranked Marquette and Northwestern but have been inconsistent, including a 30-point road loss to Nebraska on Dec. 10. Winter, a sophomore, has been a key contributor, averaging 15.2 points and 7.2 rebounds over his last five games. His versatility was on full display in the win over Marquette, where he posted 13 points and 13 rebounds. Central Michigan (4-8) arrives after a heartbreaking 74-73 loss at Northern Illinois on Saturday, its fourth defeat in five games. The Chippewas have struggled defensively, allowing an average of 84.5 points in their eight losses, including a 107-65 rout at Saint Louis on Dec. 7. Guard Nick Mullen leads Central Michigan, coming off an 18-point performance against Northern Illinois. He has scored in double figures in four of his last six contests. He and forward Nathan Claerbaut, who also had 18 points Saturday, will need strong performances to challenge the Badgers. Wisconsin holds a distinct advantage at home, where it is 6-1 this season and has won by an average margin of 24 points in its victories. Central Michigan is 0-6 on the road, losing those games by an average of 22.2 points. This marks the final nonconference tune-up for both teams before league play resumes. Wisconsin opens Big Ten play against Purdue on Jan. 3, while Central Michigan begins Mid-American Conference action against Ohio on Dec. 30. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. EST Monday.
