SAN ANTONIO (Interstat) — The surging Seattle Redhawks, winners of six straight, look to continue their strong non-conference play when they visit the struggling Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners in a men’s NCAA Division I basketball game Monday afternoon at the Convocation Center. Seattle (10-2) enters on its best run of the season, fresh off a 70-66 home victory over Washington on Friday. The Redhawks have shown resilience, with four of their last six wins coming by single digits, including a 79-78 nail-biter at UC Davis last Wednesday. A key figure in their success has been forward Austin Maurer. The sophomore is coming off a season-high 19-point, three-block performance in 27 minutes against the Huskies. Over his last five games, Maurer is averaging 12.0 points and 1.8 blocks while playing increased minutes, providing a major interior presence for a balanced Seattle attack that also features guards Brayden Maldonado and Jun Seok Yeo. Texas-San Antonio (4-7) seeks to halt a four-game skid, all coming against power-conference opponents by an average margin of 28.5 points. Their most recent outing was a 97-70 loss at Southern California, where the Roadrunners allowed the Trojans to shoot 56.7% from the field. Guard Kaidon Rayfield will be a focal point for UTSA. He led the team with 14 points against USC and has been a consistent contributor during the difficult stretch, averaging 9.2 points and 3.8 rebounds over the last five games. He and backcourt mate Brent Moss, who scored 16 against the Trojans, will need efficient performances to keep pace with Seattle’s offense. The Roadrunners have found wins hard to come by but have been strong at home, boasting a 3-1 record in San Antonio this season, including a 77-64 victory over Georgia Southern. They will need that home-court advantage to counteract a Seattle team that is 3-1 on the road. This contest marks the final non-conference tune-up for both squads before league play intensifies. Seattle begins West Coast Conference action next week, while UTSA opens its American Athletic Conference schedule on New Year’s Eve. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. CST Monday at the Convocation Center (UTSA).
