Northeastern Looks to Snap Skid at Rhode Island SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (Interstat) — The Northeastern Huskies aim to halt a two-game slide when they visit the Rhode Island Rams in a nonconference men’s basketball matchup Monday night at the Ryan Center. The Huskies (4-6) are coming off a high-scoring 91-83 road loss at Syracuse on Saturday. Guard Ryan Williams led the effort with 20 points in 23 minutes off the bench, continuing an inconsistent but explosive season. Williams, a player to watch, was scoreless in just four minutes in his previous appearance on Dec. 7 but has shown he can provide instant offense. Northeastern’s recent struggles include losses in four of its last five games, with the lone win a 73-56 victory over Central Connecticut. The Huskies will need production beyond Williams, with Youri Fritz (17 points vs. Syracuse) and Xander Alarie (19 points) also coming off strong performances. Rhode Island (8-4) enters on a more stable trajectory, having won three of its last four, including a 62-45 defensive win over Canisius on Dec. 16. The Rams are led by guard Jonah Hinton, who scored 20 points and played all 40 minutes in that victory. Hinton has been a consistent force, averaging 18.3 points over his last six contests, highlighted by a 25-point outing in a win at Temple. The Rams have found success at home this season, boasting a 5-1 record at the Ryan Center. Their defense has been key, holding opponents to 56 points or fewer in three of their last four home wins. This game represents a final nonconference tune-up for both squads before league play resumes. Northeastern opens Coastal Athletic Association play next week, while Rhode Island begins Atlantic 10 competition on Jan. 3. The Huskies will look to improve their road record, currently 2-4, against a Rams team seeking its ninth win to solidify its strongest start in recent seasons. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
