Preview: Siena Saints at Indiana Hoosiers BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (Interstat) — Two teams with identical records but vastly different pedigrees will meet Monday night when the Siena Saints visit the Indiana Hoosiers at Assembly Hall. Both teams enter the non-conference clash at 9-3. Siena, out of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, looks to rebound from a 83-69 road loss at Vermont on Dec. 17. Indiana, a traditional Big Ten power, is coming off a 78-58 home victory over Chicago State this past Saturday. The Saints have been led by the consistent play of guard Brendan Coyle. Over his last seven games, Coyle is averaging 11.6 points, including a 23-point performance against Longwood and a 15-point effort in the loss to Vermont. His backcourt mate, Gavin Doty, led Siena with 18 points against the Catamounts. Indiana counters with its own standout in forward Reed Bailey. Bailey is coming off a dominant performance against Chicago State, posting 17 points and eight rebounds in just 21 minutes. He has shown high-scoring potential this season, with games of 21 points against Kansas State and 18 points against Penn State. Guard Lamar Wilkerson, who had 21 points and six assists last game, provides additional firepower. The matchup presents a classic contrast. Siena has built its record against a schedule featuring mostly mid-major opponents, with its most notable result a 75-66 loss at Saint Bonaventure. Indiana’s schedule has been more demanding, with losses coming to power-conference foes Kentucky, Louisville and Minnesota, but also boasting a 113-72 rout of Penn State and a 20-point win over then-Kansas State. For Siena, a strong showing in one of college basketball’s most iconic venues would be a significant statement before MAAC play begins next month. For Indiana, this game serves as a final tune-up before opening its rigorous Big Ten slate on Jan. 4 against Washington. The Saints will need to control the tempo and limit Indiana’s transition opportunities to have a chance. The Hoosiers, who average 83.2 points per game, will look to use their size and athleticism to overwhelm the visitors early in front of what is expected to be a raucous home crowd. Monday’s game tips off at 7 p.m. EST and will be broadcast on the Big Ten Network.
