PHOENIX (Interstat) — The Grand Canyon Antelopes look to continue their strong non-conference play at home when they host the struggling IU Indy Jaguars in a men’s Division I basketball matchup Monday night. The game at Grand Canyon University Arena pits two teams on divergent tracks. The Antelopes (7-4) enter with momentum from an 82-70 road win at Wyoming on Saturday. The Jaguars (4-9) have lost three of their last four against Division I opponents, though they are coming off a 126-73 rout of Miami-Middletown on Dec. 16. Grand Canyon has been formidable in Phoenix, boasting a 5-1 home record this season with notable wins over Utah and Coastal Carolina. A key to their success has been the consistent play of forward Nana Owusu-Anane. He is coming off a well-rounded performance against Wyoming with 15 points, six rebounds and three assists in 31 minutes. IU Indy, which is 1-7 on the road, will rely on guard Jaxon Edwards to provide a spark. Edwards scored 19 points in just 17 minutes in the team’s most recent outing and has averaged 13.2 points over his last five games. Support from Matt Compas and Kameron Tinsley, who combined for 30 points against Miami-Middletown, will be crucial against a tougher GCU defense. The Antelopes’ schedule shows a step up in competition ahead, with Mountain West Conference play beginning Jan. 3 against Colorado State. The Jaguars open Horizon League action on Dec. 29 at Cleveland State. Monday’s contest is the first-ever meeting between the two programs. Grand Canyon will seek to leverage its home-court advantage and superior record, while IU Indy aims to find consistency and secure a rare road victory against a quality opponent.
