Preview: Canisius at Duquesne PITTSBURGH (Interstat) — The Duquesne Dukes look to get back to .500 on the season when they host the Canisius Golden Griffins in a nonconference men’s basketball matchup Monday night at A.J. Palumbo Center. Duquesne (6-5) enters the contest looking to rebound from a narrow 78-75 road loss at Nevada on Dec. 13, a game in which guard Tarence Guinyard scored a season-high 21 points. Guinyard has been a key offensive catalyst for the Dukes, averaging 13.3 points and 4.8 assists over his last five games, though his production has fluctuated. The Dukes have shown scoring ability, topping 100 points once and 90 points three times this season, but have struggled defensively in their losses. Canisius (5-7) seeks to end a two-game skid after a 62-45 defeat at Rhode Island on Dec. 16. The Golden Griffins have found consistent offense challenging, failing to reach 60 points in four of their seven losses this season. Guard Anthony Benard is coming off a team-high 10-point effort in the loss to the Rams and will be a focal point for the Griffins’ attack. The game represents a final tune-up for both teams before holiday breaks and the bulk of their conference schedules. Duquesne will host Cleary on Dec. 27 before opening Atlantic 10 play at Davidson on Dec. 30. Canisius next plays on Jan. 2, opening Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action at home against Fairfield. Historically, Duquesne holds a 9-3 advantage in the series, though the teams have not met since 2015. The Dukes are 5-0 at home this season, while the Golden Griffins are 1-6 in true road games. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST Monday.
