OMAHA, Neb. (Interstat) — Two teams seeking momentum before conference play begins will meet Monday when the Creighton Bluejays host the Utah Tech Trailblazers in a nonconference men’s basketball game at CenturyLink Center. Both teams enter with 6-6 overall records, looking to secure a winning mark before their respective league schedules commence after the new year. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. CST tipoff. Creighton arrives with confidence following a dominant 98-57 road victory at Xavier on Dec. 17. The Bluejays’ offense was fueled by a breakout performance from freshman guard Austin Swartz, who poured in 27 points in just 22 minutes. Swartz has shown flashes of high scoring potential, averaging 18.8 points over his last four contests after a quiet start to the season. Utah Tech also posted a lopsided win in its last outing, defeating Justice College 89-48 on Dec. 13. The Trailblazers are led by guard Tanner Davis, who dished out six assists in that victory. Davis has been a steady backcourt presence, averaging 26 minutes per game over his last four. The matchup presents a contrast in competition levels. Creighton’s schedule has been notably tougher, featuring games against ranked opponents like Baylor and Gonzaga, along with power conference foes Kansas State, Nebraska and Iowa State. Their five losses have come against teams with a combined record of 44-16. Utah Tech’s resume includes losses to Arizona and Arizona State, but also setbacks to Santa Clara and Portland State. The Trailblazers will face a significant challenge in the Bluejays’ high-powered offense, which has scored 90 or more points three times this season. For Creighton, this game serves as a final tune-up before opening Big East play at home against Butler on Dec. 30. Utah Tech begins Western Athletic Conference action on Jan. 1 at Abilene Christian. The series history between the two programs is limited. Monday’s contest will be just their second meeting, with Creighton having won the first matchup during the 2023-24 season.
