Preview: Bethune-Cookman Wildcats at Arizona Wildcats TUCSON, Ariz. (Interstat) — A clash of Wildcats with vastly different pedigrees and season trajectories is set for Monday night at McKale Center, as the unbeaten and top-ranked Arizona Wildcats host the struggling Bethune-Cookman Wildcats in nonconference men’s basketball. Arizona (10-0) enters the contest riding a wave of dominant victories, having won each game this season by double digits. Their average margin of victory is 27.6 points, highlighted by recent road wins over then-Alabama (96-75) and a neutral-site victory over then-Auburn (97-68). The team’s high-powered offense, averaging 93.4 points per game, is fueled by a deep roster. A player to watch is freshman guard Brayden Burries, who is coming off a 20-point performance in a 96-62 win over Abilene Christian and scored 28 in the win at Alabama. Bethune-Cookman (3-8) faces a monumental challenge, seeking to rebound from a 112-53 road loss at Saint Louis on Wednesday. That defeat was its seventh in eight games, with the lone win in that stretch an 80-59 victory over South Carolina State on Dec. 5. The team has struggled against high-major competition, falling by 44 points at Indiana and 59 at Saint Louis. Guard Jakobi Heady has been a bright spot, averaging 16.3 points over his last six games, including a 23-point effort in the loss to Saint Louis. The game represents a final tune-up for Arizona before opening Big 12 Conference play at Utah on Jan. 3. For Bethune-Cookman, it is the last of a grueling series of road games against power-conference opponents before opening Southwestern Athletic Conference play on Jan. 3. Monday’s matchup marks the first-ever meeting between the two programs. Arizona is 150-27 all-time at McKale Center under 15th-year coach Tommy Lloyd. Bethune-Cookman, under first-year coach Reggie Theus, continues a stretch where eight of its first 12 games are on the road. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. MST. Arizona will look to maintain its perfect start, while Bethune-Cookman aims to find momentum before the conference season begins.
