Preview: Eastern Kentucky Colonels at Wichita State Shockers WICHITA, Kan. (Interstat) β€” The Wichita State Shockers look to continue building momentum before conference play when they host the Eastern Kentucky Colonels in a nonconference men’s basketball game Sunday at Charles Koch Arena. Wichita State (7-5) enters off an 84-73 home win over Wofford on Wednesday. Dre Kindell led the way with 19 points, continuing a strong stretch for the guard. Over his last four games, Kindell is averaging 12.8 points, including a 19-point performance against Wofford and 13 points and six assists in a blowout of Mount Marty. The Shockers have found success at home this season, boasting a 5-1 record in Wichita. Their lone blemish was a 61-58 loss to DePaul on Dec. 13. Eastern Kentucky (4-8) snapped a two-game skid with a 62-59 road victory at Jacksonville State on Wednesday. Guard Turner Buttry paced the Colonels with 19 points and three assists in 33 minutes. Buttry has been a consistent offensive catalyst, scoring in double figures in five of his last eight contests, including a 20-point outing at Northern Kentucky on Nov. 24. The Colonels, however, have struggled on the road, posting a 2-5 record away from home. Their defense will be tested by a Wichita State team averaging 76.8 points per game at Charles Koch Arena. This marks the first meeting between the programs since 2013. Wichita State holds a 3-0 all-time series advantage. For Eastern Kentucky, this game concludes a challenging nonconference slate before opening Atlantic Sun Conference play on Jan. 1. Wichita State will wrap up its nonconference schedule before heading into American Athletic Conference action next week. Tipoff is set for Sunday afternoon.
