Undefeated Vanderbilt Faces Wake Forest in Nonconference Showdown WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (Interstat) — One of the nation’s last remaining undefeated teams puts its perfect record on the line Sunday when the Vanderbilt Commodores visit the Wake Forest Demon Deacons at Joel Coliseum. The Commodores (11-0) are off to their best start in years, coming off a hard-fought 77-70 overtime road win at Memphis on Wednesday. Vanderbilt has shown both firepower and resilience, with six wins by 15 or more points and the recent tight victory over the Tigers. Vanderbilt is led by guard Duke Miles, who is coming off a 40-minute, 22-point, five-assist performance against Memphis. Miles has been a consistent offensive catalyst, scoring 20 or more points in four of his last six games, including a 28-point outing at Western Kentucky and a 25-point game against Saint Mary’s. Wake Forest (9-3) aims to hand Vanderbilt its first loss and build momentum before Atlantic Coast Conference play begins. The Demon Deacons survived a scare in their last outing, edging Longwood 71-68 on Wednesday. Their three losses have come against Oklahoma, Texas Tech and Michigan in overtime. The Demon Deacons counter with their own standout guard, Juke Harris. He leads the team in scoring and dropped 28 points in a win at West Virginia earlier this month. Harris has scored in double figures in every game this season, including 19 points in the narrow win over Longwood. This matchup features a contrast in recent trajectories. Vanderbilt has cruised through most of its schedule, while Wake Forest has experienced tighter contests, including the three-point win over Longwood and a one-point road loss at Michigan. The Demon Deacons’ home court, where they are 6-1 this season, will be tested by a Vanderbilt team already proven on the road. The game serves as a final major nonconference test for both squads. Vanderbilt begins Southeastern Conference play at South Carolina on Jan. 3, while Wake Forest opens ACC action at North Carolina State on Dec. 31. Sunday’s contest tips off at 6 p.m. EST at Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
