FORT WORTH, Texas (Interstat) ā A surging TCU looks to continue its strong non-conference play when it hosts Florida A&M in a menās basketball matchup Sunday at Dickies Arena. The Horned Frogs (8-3) have won five of their last six, including notable road victories over Florida and Wisconsin during the Thanksgiving holiday. Their most recent outing was a 72-53 defensive-minded win over Oral Roberts on Thursday. TCU has been led by forward David Punch, who has scored in double figures in nine straight games. Over his last three, Punch is averaging 15.3 points and 3.0 blocks per game, providing a consistent interior presence. Florida A&M (3-5) enters with momentum from a two-game winning streak, defeating Albany State and Jacksonville at home. Guard Antonio Baker has been pivotal in the turnaround, averaging 18 points and 5 assists over those two victories. He scored 17 points in Wednesdayās 72-65 win over Jacksonville. The game represents a significant challenge for the Rattlers, who are 0-3 in true road games this season, losing those contests by an average of 30 points. TCU, meanwhile, has protected its home state effectively, going 5-1 in games played in Texas. This is the first meeting between the programs. For TCU, it serves as a final tune-up before beginning a rugged Big 12 conference slate in January that includes games against Kansas, Arizona and Houston. Florida A&M will look to build confidence before opening Southwestern Athletic Conference play next month. The Horned Frogsā defensive intensity, ranking among the nationās best in field goal percentage defense, will test a Florida A&M offense that has shown recent improvement. Containing Punch inside will be a primary concern for the Rattlers, while TCU must account for Bakerās dynamic backcourt play. Tip-off is set for Sunday afternoon in Fort Worth.
