SAN FRANCISCO (Interstat) — The San Francisco Dons will look to build on a decisive home victory and continue their winning momentum when they host the struggling Morgan State Bears in a non-conference men’s basketball matchup Sunday at War Memorial Gymnasium. The Dons (7-5) are coming off an 85-71 win over Loyola Chicago on Wednesday, a performance that showcased their offensive balance. Tyrone Riley led the way with 22 points, while David Fuchs added 20 points and four assists. Riley, a key player for San Francisco, has been a consistent scorer, averaging 17.3 points over his last three games, including a 22-point effort in the win over Loyola Chicago. Morgan State (2-8) arrives on the West Coast seeking to replicate its most recent performance, an 81-73 home victory over Niagara on Dec. 13. That win snapped a three-game skid for the Bears, who have struggled on the road this season, including a 92-49 loss at DePaul on Dec. 9. The Bears will rely heavily on guard Alfred Worrell, who erupted for 24 points in the win over Niagara. Worrell has shown high-scoring potential, with 25 points against Drexel on Nov. 25 and 20 against Longwood on Dec. 6. His backcourt mate, Rob Lawson, recorded a double-double with 17 points and 10 assists in the Niagara game. San Francisco has proven formidable at home this season, boasting a 5-1 record at War Memorial Gymnasium. Their only home loss was a narrow 65-63 defeat to North Alabama on Dec. 3. The Bears have allowed 80 or more points in six of their ten games this season. Conversely, San Francisco’s defense will aim to contain Worrell and limit Lawson’s playmaking. This game marks the first meeting between the programs. For San Francisco, it serves as a final tune-up before West Coast Conference play begins next week.
