ANN ARBOR, Mich. (Interstat) — The undefeated and fourth-ranked Michigan Wolverines look to continue their dominant start to the season when they host the struggling La Salle Explorers in a nonconference men’s basketball game Sunday at Crisler Center. Michigan (10-0) has been one of the nation’s most explosive teams, averaging 96.2 points per game and winning by an average margin of 30.1 points. Their most recent victory was a 101-83 road win at Maryland on Dec. 13, where transfer forward Yaxel Lendeborg delivered a career performance with 29 points, nine assists and three blocks. Lendeborg, a focal point of Michigan’s high-powered offense, is averaging 17.6 points and 4.9 assists per game. The Wolverines’ perfect record includes resounding victories over power conference opponents like Auburn, Gonzaga and Villanova, all by at least 28 points. Their closest game was a season-opening 85-84 overtime win against Wake Forest. La Salle (4-8) enters on a three-game losing streak, including a 84-72 loss at High Point on Friday. The Explorers have struggled to find consistency, particularly on the road where they are 1-5 this season. They will rely heavily on guard Jaeden Marshall, who scored 22 points in the loss to High Point and is averaging 13.3 points per game. Marshall has scored in double figures in seven of his last eight contests. The Explorers’ defense, allowing 70.3 points per game, will face its toughest test yet against Michigan’s multifaceted attack. La Salle has not defeated a major conference opponent this season, with losses to Penn State, Temple and Villanova. This game concludes a challenging early-season stretch for La Salle before it begins Atlantic 10 play. For Michigan, it is the final tune-up before hosting McNeese State on Dec. 29 and opening Big Ten Conference play in January. Sunday’s contest tips off at 2 p.m. EST. Michigan leads the all-time series 2-0, with the last meeting being a Wolverines victory in 2013.
