EVANSVILLE, Ind. (Interstat) — Two Missouri Valley Conference men’s basketball teams looking to halt slides will meet Sunday when the Evansville Purple Aces host the Drake Bulldogs at Ford Center. Drake (6-6) enters having lost three straight, including a 72-81 defeat at Murray State on Thursday. Evansville (4-8) has dropped four of its last five, most recently falling 78-83 to Belmont on Tuesday. The Bulldogs will lean on forward Okku Federiko, who has been a bright spot during their skid. He is coming off a 17-point performance at Murray State and has averaged 16.2 points over his last five games. His season high was a 20-point, 8-rebound effort in a win over Georgia Tech on Nov. 29. For the Purple Aces, guard Trent Hundley is coming off his best game of the season, scoring 20 points in the loss to Belmont. His production has been inconsistent, however, with just 11 total points across the three games preceding that outing. Both teams have struggled defensively. Drake has allowed an average of 84.7 points during its three-game losing streak. Evansville has conceded 80 or more points in five of its eight losses this season. Historically, Drake has dominated the recent series, winning the last nine meetings. The teams will meet again in Des Moines on Jan. 28. Sunday’s contest is the conference opener for both squads. Drake seeks to rebound from a 1-3 stretch against a challenging non-conference slate, while Evansville aims to build on one of its few strong performances this season — a 64-52 win over Ball State on Dec. 3. After Sunday, Drake hosts Illinois State on Dec. 29. Evansville travels to face Bradley on Dec. 29. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. CST at Ford Center.
