Preview: Southern Jaguars at Baylor Bears WACO, Texas (Interstat) — The Baylor Bears look to continue a strong nonconference start when they host the Southern Jaguars at Ferrell Center on Sunday. Baylor (7-2) enters the contest having won four of its last five, including a dominant 97-67 victory over Norfolk State on Dec. 10. The Bears’ offense has been potent, averaging 88.9 points per game and scoring at least 91 points in four of their wins. Guard Obi Agbim has been a catalyst, averaging 12.4 points and 3.1 assists. He is coming off an 18-point, five-assist performance against Norfolk State. Southern (4-7) seeks a signature road win to steady its season. The Jaguars have lost three straight, most recently falling 75-67 at California Baptist on Tuesday. Their schedule has been challenging, with four of their seven losses coming against high-major opponents. The Jaguars will rely on guard Cam Amboree, who is averaging 13.6 points. He scored 18 points in the loss at California Baptist and had 16 points and four assists in a narrow 86-83 defeat at Texas State on Dec. 10. Baylor’s interior defense, led by forward Cameron Carr (2.1 blocks per game), will test a Southern team that has struggled offensively against power-conference foes, scoring 69 and 77 points in losses to Texas and Arkansas, respectively. This marks the first meeting between the programs. For Baylor, it is a final tune-up before opening Big 12 Conference play at TCU on Jan. 3. Southern concludes a five-game road swing before hosting Texas Southern on Jan. 3 to begin Southwestern Athletic Conference action. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. CST Sunday at Ferrell Center.
