Surging Sun Devils Host Beavers in Nonconference Finale TEMPE, Ariz. (Interstat) — The Arizona State Sun Devils look to rebound from their first loss in over a month when they host the Oregon State Beavers in a nonconference men’s basketball game Sunday at Wells Fargo Arena. Arizona State (9-3) saw a five-game winning streak snapped with a 90-77 road loss to UCLA on Wednesday. The Sun Devils’ offense, which averaged 84.2 points during the streak, was held under 80 points for only the third time this season. Guard Anthony Johnson has been a key catalyst, scoring in double figures in seven straight games. He poured in 20 points against UCLA in just 22 minutes and is averaging 15.5 points over his last six contests. Oregon State (6-6) arrives seeking consistency after alternating wins and losses over its past seven games. The Beavers are coming off an 85-75 home loss to Sam Houston on Wednesday. The Beavers will lean on guard Josiah Lake, who is averaging 15.0 points and 4.0 assists over the last five games. He scored 19 points and dished four assists in the loss to Sam Houston. Arizona State has dominated the recent series, winning the last eight meetings. The Sun Devils won both matchups last season by an average of 18.5 points. This game concludes the nonconference schedule for both teams. Arizona State will open Big 12 play at home against Colorado on Jan. 3. Oregon State, now an independent, will host Santa Clara on Dec. 28. Sunday’s tipoff is set for 5 p.m. MST.
