HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (Interstat) — The Alabama A&M Bulldogs look to rebound from a road loss when they host the Chattanooga Mocs in nonconference men’s basketball Sunday at T.M. Elmore Gymnasium. The Bulldogs (6-5) are coming off an 80-66 defeat at Mississippi on Wednesday. Guard Sami Pissis leads the team, averaging 14.5 points and 3.5 assists over his last four games. He scored 17 points with five assists in the loss to the Rebels. Chattanooga (5-7) seeks to end a three-game skid, most recently a 79-64 loss at Bellarmine on Wednesday. Guard Brennan Watkins is a key scorer for the Mocs, erupting for 20 points in 37 minutes against Bellarmine after an 18-point performance in a win over Oakwood on Dec. 9. Alabama A&M has shown resilience at home this season, posting a 5-1 record in Huntsville. Their wins include a 68-60 victory over North Alabama on Dec. 15 and an 80-53 rout of Tennessee State on Dec. 3. The Bulldogs’ defense has held opponents to an average of 62.8 points in those five home wins. Conversely, Chattanooga has struggled on the road, going 1-6 away from home with losses at Auburn, UNLV and Saint Mary’s. The Mocs’ offense, which averages 103 points in wins over non-Division I opponents Oakwood and Tenn. Wesleyan, has been held to 70 points or fewer in four of their seven losses. This matchup represents the final nonconference tune-up for both teams before league play begins in January. Alabama A&M will host Fisk on Dec. 30 before opening Southwestern Athletic Conference action. Chattanooga next plays at UNC Greensboro on Jan. 1 to start its Southern Conference schedule. The game tips off at 4 p.m. CST Sunday.
