Preview: Cal Poly at No. -- UCLA LOS ANGELES (Interstat) β The UCLA Bruins look to rebound from their first loss in nearly a month when they host the Cal Poly Mustangs in a nonconference menβs basketball game Friday afternoon at Pauley Pavilion. UCLA (7-3) saw a four-game winning streak snapped with a 72-82 loss at then-Gonzaga last Saturday. The Bruins, receiving votes in the latest AP Top 25 poll, had previously secured notable wins over Oregon and Washington. The Bruins are led by guard Donovan Dent, who is coming off a double-double with 12 points and 10 assists against the Bulldogs. Over his last three games, Dent is averaging 14.0 points and 7.0 assists. Forward Tyler Bilodeau, who scored a season-high 24 points at Gonzaga, provides a consistent interior presence. Cal Poly (5-7) arrives after a narrow 80-83 home loss to Montana State on Tuesday. The Mustangs have lost three of their last four, with all three defeats coming by six points or fewer. The Mustangs will rely on the hot hand of guard Cayden Ward, who scored a career-high 25 points in the loss to Montana State. Ward has averaged 18.4 points over his last five games, including a 28-point performance in a road win at Utah last month. UCLA holds a significant historical edge in the series and boasts a clear advantage in record and strength of schedule this season. The Bruins have defended their home court well, going 4-1 at Pauley Pavilion. For Cal Poly, the game marks a final major nonconference test before opening Big West Conference play on Jan. 1. UCLA continues a busy stretch, hosting UC Riverside next Tuesday before beginning Big Ten Conference action in January. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. PST. The game will be broadcast on the Pac-12 Network.
