FAIRFIELD, Conn. (Interstat) — Two teams looking to build momentum before conference play begins will meet Friday when Dartmouth visits Sacred Heart in a nonconference men’s basketball game at the William Pitt Center. The Dartmouth Big Green (5-5) enter on a two-game winning streak following an 89-64 road victory over Holy Cross on Tuesday. The Sacred Heart Pioneers (4-7) aim to bounce back from an 82-87 loss at UMass Lowell the same night. A key matchup will feature high-scoring guards on both sides. Dartmouth’s Kareem Thomas is averaging 20.2 points over his last six games, coming off a 24-point performance in 27 minutes against Holy Cross. He has scored 18 or more points in five of those contests. Sacred Heart will counter with Nyle Ralph-Beyer, who is coming off a season-high 28 points against UMass Lowell. He has provided a scoring lift for the Pioneers, averaging 16.3 points over his last four games. Dartmouth has found its offense during its current streak, averaging 83 points in wins over Boston University and Holy Cross after being held to 55 in a loss at Colorado State on Dec. 9. The Big Green are 3-1 at home but just 2-4 on the road. Sacred Heart has struggled for consistency, alternating wins and losses over its past five games. The Pioneers’ defense, which allowed 87 points in the recent loss, will be tested by Dartmouth’s backcourt. This is the final nonconference tune-up for Sacred Heart before it begins Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play in January. Dartmouth concludes its non-league schedule after this game before opening Ivy League action on Jan. 5. The game tips off at 7 p.m. EST Friday. Sacred Heart travels to Towson on Monday, while Dartmouth’s next game is at Florida on Dec. 29.
