Preview: Washington Huskies at Seattle Redhawks SEATTLE (Interstat) ā A pair of hot in-state menās basketball programs will meet Friday night when the Washington Huskies visit the Seattle Redhawks at Key Arena. The Huskies (7-3) enter on a two-game winning streak, including an 84-76 road victory over Southern California on Dec. 6. They are led by guard Hannes Steinbach, who is averaging 22.3 points per game over his last three contests. Steinbach scored 29 points in a narrow 82-80 loss to UCLA on Dec. 3. The Redhawks (8-2) have won five straight games since a two-point road loss to UC Santa Barbara on Nov. 29. Their recent schedule, however, has featured several lower-division opponents, including a 115-60 rout of Warner Pacific on Dec. 13. In that game, guard Jojo Murphy posted 15 points and eight assists in 24 minutes. Washingtonās strength of schedule appears more robust, with games against Power Five opponents UCLA, USC, Baylor and Colorado already played. Seattleās most notable win came at Stanford, 77-69, on Nov. 21. The Huskies are averaging 84.1 points per game and are coming off a 105-69 demolition of Southern Utah where Steinbach, Quimari Peterson and JJ Mandaquit combined for 33 points and 13 assists. Seattleās offense has been explosive against lesser competition, but managed 75 points in a tighter win over UTEP on Dec. 7. This matchup begins a tough stretch for both teams. Washington hosts San Diego on Dec. 22 before opening Big Ten Conference play. Seattle travels to face Texas-San Antonio on Dec. 22 ahead of a meeting with Washington State on Dec. 30 and a daunting West Coast Conference slate. Fridayās game will test Seattleās strong record against a Washington team battle-tested from major conference play. Containing Steinbach will be a primary focus for the Redhawks, while the Huskies must navigate a charged road environment just miles from their own campus. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. PST.
