HIGH POINT, N.C. (Interstat) ā A surging High Point menās basketball team looks to continue its strong non-conference play when it hosts struggling La Salle on Friday night at Qubein Arena. The Panthers (9-3) enter the contest having won seven of their last eight games, including a dominant 129-47 victory over Division III Mary Baldwin on Tuesday. High Pointās offense has been potent, scoring 89 or more points in five of its wins. La Salle (4-7) seeks to halt a two-game skid after falling 70-60 at Long Island on Dec. 13. The Explorers have struggled for consistency, alternating wins and losses for much of the early season. A key matchup will feature High Pointās high-scoring CamāRon Fletcher against La Salleās interior presence, Justin Archer. Fletcher is coming off a 24-point performance in just 20 minutes against Mary Baldwin and has scored 18 or more points in four of his last six games. Archer has been a bright spot for the Explorers, averaging 10.0 points and 4.0 rebounds over his last four contests, including a 14-point, six-rebound effort at Penn on Nov. 29. The Panthers have been formidable at home, boasting a 6-1 record in High Point with an average margin of victory of 41 points in those wins. Their only home loss was an 86-84 defeat to Southern Illinois on Dec. 3. La Salleās road record stands at 1-4, with the lone win coming against Penn in a narrow 71-73 loss. The Explorers will need to contain a Panther offense that shoots 49.8% from the field as a team. This game marks the final tune-up for both teams before holiday breaks. High Point hosts Bryant on Monday, while La Salle travels to face Michigan on Sunday. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST Friday.
