WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (Interstat) — The Wake Forest Demon Deacons, riding momentum from a key road win, return home to face the Queens University Royals in a nonconference men’s basketball game Sunday at Joel Coliseum. Wake Forest (7-3) is coming off a 75-66 victory at West Virginia on Dec. 6, a performance highlighted by a career-high 28 points from guard Juke Harris. The sophomore has been a consistent offensive force, averaging 20.1 points over his last seven games, including a 26-point outing in a narrow loss at Texas Tech. “We’re building some toughness,” Wake Forest coach Steve Forbes said. “Getting a win in that environment at West Virginia is a step for this group.” The Demon Deacons’ offense averages 84.2 points per game, powered by Harris and forward Tre’Von Spillers, who adds 12.9 points and a team-leading 8.4 rebounds per contest. They will face a Queens (4-5) team that is also entering on a high note, having routed Gardner-Webb 107-74 on Dec. 3. The Royals’ offense erupted for a season-high in points in that win, led by 18 points from Avantae Parker in just 18 minutes off the bench. Parker, a key reserve, has provided efficient scoring punch for the Royals, reaching double figures in four of his last five games. He will need to be a factor against a taller Wake Forest frontcourt. “We have to control the tempo and value every possession,” Queens coach Grant Leonard said. “Wake Forest is long, athletic, and plays with great pace. We must be sound in our transitions.” The Royals have faced a challenging early schedule, with road losses to Virginia, Furman and Villanova. Their defense, allowing 84.2 points per game, will be tested by a potent Wake Forest attack. This marks the first meeting between the programs. For Queens, it is the second of three straight games against Power Five opponents before Atlantic Sun Conference play begins. Wake Forest sees it as a final tune-up before a Dec. 21 matchup with Vanderbilt and the start of Atlantic Coast Conference play. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. EST Sunday. The Demon Deacons are 5-0 at home this season.
