Preview: Jacksonville Dolphins at Texas A&M Aggies COLLEGE STATION, Texas (Interstat) — The Texas A&M Aggies look to rebound from their first loss in nearly a month when they host the Jacksonville Dolphins in a nonconference men’s basketball game Sunday at Reed Arena. The Aggies (7-3) saw a six-game winning streak snapped with a 93-80 overtime loss at SMU on Dec. 7. Guard Marcus Hill was a bright spot in the defeat, scoring a season-high 25 points. Hill has been a consistent offensive threat, averaging 13.2 points per game and scoring in double figures in five of his last seven outings. “We have to learn from that film and get back to playing our brand of basketball,” Texas A&M coach Buzz Williams said. “Our focus is on defensive consistency and taking care of the ball.” Jacksonville (5-5) enters riding high after a 122-49 rout of Trinity Christian on Thursday. The Dolphins have alternated wins and losses over their last seven games. Guard Hayden Wood erupted for 21 points in just 20 minutes in the win, showcasing the scoring punch he can provide. Wood has averaged 12.4 points over his last five contests. “Hayden gives us a spark, and we’ll need that energy on the road,” Jacksonville coach Jordan Mincy said. “Texas A&M is a physical, SEC team. We have to match their toughness and execute for 40 minutes.” The Aggies have dominated at home this season, boasting a 5-0 record in College Station with an average margin of victory of 36.2 points. Their defense will be tested by a Jacksonville backcourt that dished out 29 assists in its last game, led by Jaylen Jones and Evan Sterck with 19 combined assists. Texas A&M’s interior presence, led by forward Rashaun Agee (11.1 points, 8.1 rebounds per game), will be a key factor against a Dolphins team that has been outrebounded in six of its ten games. This is the first meeting between the programs. Following this game, Texas A&M hosts Texas A&M-Commerce on Dec. 21 before opening Southeastern Conference play Jan. 3 against LSU. Jacksonville travels to face Florida A&M on Dec. 17. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. CST Sunday.
