FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Interstat) — A pair of Horizon League teams trending in opposite directions will meet Sunday when the Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons host the Detroit Mercy Titans at Gates Sports Center. The Mastodons (6-6) enter on a two-game win streak, including a convincing 80-65 victory over Eastern Michigan on Wednesday. They have found their rhythm offensively, averaging 86 points over their last three contests. The surge has been fueled by guard Corey Hadnot, who is averaging 28.7 points over that same stretch. Hadnot dropped 33 points in a road loss at Oakland on Dec. 3 and followed with 25 and 28 points in the team’s subsequent wins. Detroit (4-6) snapped a four-game skid with a 71-59 road win at Cleveland State on Dec. 6 but has not played since. In that victory, guard TJ Nadeau erupted for a career-high 26 points. Nadeau has been a bright spot, scoring in double figures in five of his last seven games, though his production has fluctuated. The Titans will need his scoring punch to keep pace with Fort Wayne’s high-octane attack. The Mastodons hold a slight edge in record and have shown more consistent firepower at home, where they are 5-1 this season, including dominant non-conference wins over Holy Cross and Chicago State. Their two recent wins came at Gates, while Detroit’s last victory was its only road win of the season. Defensive resilience will be key for the Titans, who allowed 90 points or more in three of their six losses. Containing Hadnot, who has scored 20 or more points in six games this season, will be their primary challenge. For Purdue Fort Wayne, maintaining their offensive momentum while tightening a defense that allowed 101 points in its last road outing will be the focus. This marks the first of two regular-season meetings between the league foes. They will meet again in Detroit on Jan. 21. Tip-off is scheduled for Sunday afternoon. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
