CHARLESTON, S.C. (Interstat) ā Two teams seeking momentum will meet Sunday when the Charlotte 49ers visit the College of Charleston Cougars in a nonconference menās basketball game at TD Arena. Both teams enter with identical 4-6 records. Charlotte looks to rebound from a 79-53 home loss to Utah State on Dec. 7, while the Cougars aim to bounce back from a 75-81 road defeat at South Florida on Dec. 10. A key matchup will feature Charlotteās interior presence against Charlestonās backcourt. For the 49ers, forward Anton Bonke has been a consistent force, averaging a double-double over his last three games. He is coming off a 13-rebound, two-block performance against Utah State and had a 17-point, 13-rebound game against Shaw on Nov. 23. The Cougars will counter with guard Jlynn Counter, who is coming off his best game of the season. He scored 19 points and dished six assists in the loss to South Florida. Counter has topped 20 points twice this season, including a 21-point effort against Drake on Nov. 17. Charlotteās season has been marked by narrow defeats, with four of its six losses coming by 10 points or fewer, including a two-point loss at Appalachian State. The 49ersā wins have come against Indiana State, Tennessee Tech, Shaw and North Carolina A&T. College of Charleston has struggled against a challenging schedule, with its victories coming against Tusculum, South Carolina State, Massachusetts and Evansville. The Cougars have lost three straight, including a 96-73 defeat to Belmont on Nov. 30. After this contest, Charlotte will host Lafayette on Dec. 18. College of Charleston will stay home to face The Citadel on Dec. 17. Tipoff is set for Sunday afternoon. The game will be a final tune-up before both teams break for the holidays and turn their focus to conference play in the new year.
