Preview: Michigan Looks to Stay Perfect in Big Ten Test at Maryland COLLEGE PARK, Md. (Interstat) — The undefeated and top-ranked Michigan Wolverines put their perfect record on the line Saturday in a Big Ten road test against the Maryland Terrapins at Xfinity Center. Michigan (9-0, 1-0 Big Ten) has been the nation’s most dominant team, winning every game by double digits since a season-opening overtime victory. The Wolverines are coming off a 28-point rout of Villanova on Tuesday, their sixth win by 25 or more points this season. They lead the country in scoring margin, outscoring opponents by an average of 33.2 points. The Terrapins (5-4, 0-1), meanwhile, have struggled against high-major competition, with all four losses coming against power-conference opponents by an average of 24.5 points. They opened conference play with an 83-64 loss at Iowa last Saturday. A key matchup will feature Michigan’s dynamic backcourt against Maryland’s interior anchor. Wolverines guard Elliot Cadeau is averaging 14.0 points and 8.0 assists over his last three games, orchestrating the nation’s most efficient offense. For Maryland, forward Pharrel Payne has been a consistent bright spot, scoring in double figures in every game and averaging 20.3 points over his last three contests. Michigan’s offense is a multifaceted threat, with seven players averaging at least 8.0 points per game. In the win over Villanova, Elliot Cadeau scored 18 points, Yaxel Lendeborg added nine and Aday Mara had 11 points and two blocks. Maryland will rely heavily on Payne and guard David Coit, who is averaging a team-high 16.8 points. The Terrapins must improve defensively after allowing opponents to shoot 49.2% from the field in their four losses. The Wolverines have not played a true road game this season. Their only game outside Ann Arbor was a neutral-site victory over TCU. The environment at a sold-out Xfinity Center, where Maryland is 4-1 this season, presents a new challenge. Historically, the series has been tight, with Michigan holding a slight edge in recent meetings. However, the Wolverines enter as heavy favorites based on their overwhelming form. A Maryland upset would require a monumental defensive effort and a standout performance from Payne to counter Michigan’s depth and firepower. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. EST on Saturday, Dec. 13. The game will be televised on the Big Ten Network.
