RENO, Nev. (Interstat) — A pair of teams looking to build momentum before conference play begins will meet Saturday when the Duquesne Dukes visit the Nevada Wolf Pack at Lawlor Events Center. The nonconference matchup features Duquesne (6-4) coming off a 22-point road loss at Boise State on Wednesday, while Nevada (7-3) enters with a week of rest following a solid 78-64 victory at Washington State on Dec. 7. The Wolf Pack have found success at home this season, boasting a 5-1 record in Reno. Their offense has been sparked by guard Tayshawn Comer, who is coming off a season-high 24-point performance against Washington State. Over his last five games, Comer is averaging 15.2 points and 4.0 assists, providing a consistent backcourt threat for Nevada. Duquesne aims to rebound from its midweek defeat, where it allowed Boise State to shoot 54% from the field. The Dukes have shown offensive capability, scoring 84 or more points in four of their six wins, but have struggled defensively in their losses. A key performer for the Dukes has been Jakub Necas, who has scored in double figures in four of the last five games, including a 13-point effort at Boise State. The Dukes will need to contain Comer and improve their perimeter defense to challenge Nevada. The Wolf Pack, meanwhile, will look to exploit Duquesne’s recent defensive lapses and use their home-court advantage to control the tempo. This game serves as a final major nonconference test for both squads before each turns its focus to league play. Duquesne opens Atlantic 10 action on Dec. 30 at Davidson, while Nevada begins Mountain West Conference play on Dec. 20 against Boise State. Tipoff is set for Saturday afternoon in Reno.
