Preview: Idaho State Bengals at Utah Valley Wolverines VINEYARD, Utah (Interstat) — Two teams riding three-game winning streaks will meet Wednesday when the Idaho State Bengals visit the Utah Valley Wolverines in a non-conference men’s basketball matchup at the UCCU Center. Both teams enter with identical momentum and comparable records. Idaho State (6-4) has won its last three, most recently a 93-79 home victory over Denver on Saturday. Utah Valley (6-3) also carries a three-game win streak, capped by an 82-71 road win at Bowling Green on Saturday. The matchup features a compelling duel between backcourt standouts. Idaho State will lean on guard Lachlan Brewer, who is coming off a 17-point performance in 36 minutes against Denver. Over his last five games, Brewer is averaging 12.8 points and has been a consistent offensive catalyst for the Bengals. Utah Valley counters with dynamic guard Jackson Holcombe, who stuffed the stat sheet with 19 points, seven rebounds and five assists in the win at Bowling Green. Holcombe has been a versatile force, averaging 16.1 points, 5.1 assists and 3.0 rebounds over his last seven contests. Idaho State’s recent surge followed a three-game skid in mid-November. Their wins during the streak have been decisive, with an average margin of victory of 21 points. Forward Martin Kheil, who scored 19 points against Denver, provides an interior complement to Brewer’s perimeter play. Utah Valley’s streak includes a dominant 89-45 win over Samford and a solid road victory at South Dakota State. Their lone stumble in the last month was a 77-66 loss at San Diego State. The Wolverines have shown balance, with forward Tyler Hendricks recording a double-double (11 points, 11 rebounds) and Isaac Davis adding 18 points off the bench in the Bowling Green win. Wednesday’s game is the final non-conference home test for Utah Valley before it begins Western Athletic Conference play in January. Idaho State, a member of the Big Sky Conference, continues its pre-conference slate before opening league play on Jan. 1. The game tips off at 7 p.m. MST. Utah Valley travels to face UC Santa Barbara on Saturday, while Idaho State’s next game is Dec. 18 against Montana Tech.
