TAMPA, Fla. (Interstat) — Two teams seeking momentum before the heart of their schedules meet Wednesday when the College of Charleston Cougars visit the South Florida Bulls at the Yuengling Center. The nonconference matchup pits a pair of programs with nearly identical early-season records. The visiting Cougars (4-5) look to snap a two-game skid, while the Bulls (5-4) aim to build on a solid home victory. Charleston is coming off a 96-73 home loss to Belmont on Nov. 30, a game where its defense struggled. The Cougars will lean on guard Connor Hickman, who scored 20 points in that defeat. Hickman has been a consistent offensive force, averaging 14.8 points over his last four games. South Florida responded from a loss to Colorado State with a 74-61 win over Utah State on Dec. 4. The Bulls’ offense runs through guard Joseph Pinion, who led the way with 17 points in that victory. Pinion has shown high-scoring potential, posting 24-point performances twice this season against Coppin State and Kennesaw State. A key battle will be on the glass. Charleston’s Christian Reeves pulled down nine rebounds against Belmont, but the Cougars have been outmatched in recent losses. South Florida’s frontcourt, featuring Izaiyah Nelson (11 points, two blocks vs. Utah State), will test that interior. The Bulls hold a slight edge playing at home, where they are 3-1 this season. Charleston is 1-3 in true road games. Both teams face challenging stretches after this contest; South Florida visits Alabama next week, while Charleston hosts Charlotte. Wednesday’s game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. EST tipoff.
