KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Interstat) — The Weber State Wildcats look to complete a season sweep and return to the win column when they visit the struggling Missouri-Kansas City Kangaroos in a nonconference men’s basketball game Wednesday night at Municipal Auditorium. Weber State (4-5) enters having dropped three of its last four, including a 65-88 loss at Saint Thomas (Minn.) on Sunday. The Wildcats previously handled UMKC (1-8) with ease in an 82-61 victory in Ogden, Utah, on Nov. 29. Guard Jace Whiting has been a consistent offensive catalyst for the Wildcats. He scored 17 points with four assists in the recent loss and is averaging 14.4 points over his last seven contests. Trevor Hennig (15 points) and Tijan Saine (12 points) also provided scoring against Saint Thomas. The Kangaroos are mired in an eight-game losing streak since a season-opening win over Evangel. Their most recent defeat was a 66-90 setback at Eastern Washington on Saturday. UMKC has struggled offensively, failing to reach 70 points in six of its nine games. Guard U’Riyah Evans leads UMKC, averaging 13.4 points per game. He scored 14 against Eastern Washington and had 11 in the first meeting with Weber State. The Kangaroos will need a more efficient offensive performance after shooting just 36.2% from the field in the November loss to the Wildcats. For Weber State, this game represents a critical opportunity to steady itself before a road test at Utah Valley next week. For UMKC, it is a chance for revenge and to find a spark before a daunting stretch that includes games at Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. Central.
