CARBONDALE, Ill. (Interstat) — A surging Tennessee-Martin men’s basketball team will put its strong early-season record on the line when it visits Southern Illinois in a nonconference matchup Wednesday night at SIU Arena. The Skyhawks (7-2) have won five of their last six games, including a 74-64 victory over Alabama State on Sunday. They are led by forward Andrija Bukumirović, who is coming off a 15-point, 13-rebound double-double in that win. Over his last seven games, Bukumirović has averaged 14.0 points and 8.0 rebounds, recording three double-doubles. Southern Illinois (5-4) looks to build momentum after an 86-84 road win at High Point last Wednesday. Guard Drew Steffe keyed that victory with 18 points and a season-high seven assists. Steffe has been a consistent offensive threat, scoring 18 or more points in three of the Salukis’ last five contests. The game presents a contrast in early trajectories. Tennessee-Martin has found success with a balanced attack, getting significant contributions from players like Damien King and Filip Radaković alongside Bukumirović. The Skyhawks’ only losses came on the road against Florida State and Southern Mississippi. Southern Illinois has faced a challenging schedule, with its four losses coming against Memphis, UAB, North Dakota State and Nevada — all on the road. The Salukis are 3-0 at home this season, including a 101-78 win over Missouri-Kansas City on Nov. 7. Wednesday’s contest is the final tune-up for Southern Illinois before a road game at Richmond on Saturday. Tennessee-Martin will host Champion Christian on Dec. 14. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CST.
