(Interstat) — Two teams seeking momentum will meet Wednesday night when the Merrimack Warriors visit the Princeton Tigers in nonconference men’s basketball at Jadwin Gymnasium. Merrimack (5-6) enters on a modest upswing, having won three straight games, including a 74-63 victory over Fairfield on Sunday. The Warriors’ recent success has been fueled by guard Kevair Kennedy, who is averaging 18.2 points over his last five contests. He scored 20 points with four rebounds and four assists in the win against Fairfield. “We’re starting to find a better rhythm on both ends,” Merrimack coach said. “The key is sustaining that effort on the road.” Princeton (3-9) looks to halt a five-game skid. The Tigers fell 73-68 at Loyola Chicago on Saturday, their latest in a string of narrow defeats. Four of their last five losses have come by single digits, including a two-point setback at Saint Joseph’s. Guard Jack Stanton has been a consistent scorer for Princeton, reaching double figures in eight of the last nine games. He tallied 14 points and five rebounds against Loyola Chicago. “We’re right there in these games. The margin for error is small, and we have to make winning plays in the final minutes,” Princeton coach said. The matchup features contrasting styles. Merrimack, from the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, has shown offensive bursts, scoring 91 points in a win at Boston University last month. Princeton, of the Ivy League, has struggled offensively during its losing streak, failing to reach 70 points in any of the five games. Historically, this is a rare meeting between the programs. For Princeton, it represents a final nonconference tune-up before Ivy League play begins in January. Merrimack continues a challenging road stretch before its MAAC schedule. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. EST. Princeton will host Temple on Dec. 22, while Merrimack travels to Vermont on Dec. 14.
