Preview: New Haven Chargers at NJIT Highlanders NEWARK, N.J. (Interstat) â Two teams seeking momentum will meet Wednesday when the New Haven Chargers visit the NJIT Highlanders in a non-conference menâs basketball game at Fleisher Athletic Center. New Haven (5-5) enters following a narrow 67-63 road loss at Boston College on Dec. 6, a game in which the Chargers held a halftime lead. NJIT (3-7) looks to snap a six-game losing streak, most recently an 89-72 defeat at High Point on Dec. 5. The Chargers have been led by forward Stefano Faloppa, who nearly posted a double-double against Boston College with 10 points and nine rebounds. Over his last six games, Faloppa is averaging 10.3 points and 6.2 rebounds per contest. He will be a key factor against an NJIT squad that has struggled defensively during its skid. The Highlandersâ hopes rest largely on guard Ari Fulton, their most consistent offensive threat. Fulton is coming off an 18-point performance at High Point and scored 22 points in NJITâs season-opening win at Loyola Maryland. However, the team has allowed an average of 89.2 points per game during its six-game losing streak, a defensive vulnerability the Chargers will aim to exploit. New Havenâs record reflects a split season, with decisive wins over lower-division opponents and competitive showings against higher-level competition like Boston College and Seton Hall. NJITâs three wins came early, with its last victory a 93-81 home win over Fairleigh Dickinson on Nov. 15. This matchup represents a final tune-up for both sides before brief holiday breaks. New Haven visits Fordham on Dec. 22, while NJIT hosts Sacred Heart on Dec. 13. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST Wednesday at NJITâs Fleisher Athletic Center.
