HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (Interstat) — A surging Western Kentucky team looks to extend its winning streak when it visits a struggling Marshall squad in a nonconference men’s basketball matchup Wednesday night at the Cam Henderson Center. The Hilltoppers (6-2) enter on a two-game win streak, most recently edging Evansville 80-79 on Saturday behind a double-double from Bryant Selebangue. The forward posted 11 points and 12 rebounds in that victory, part of a strong start to his season. Western Kentucky’s other loss came in overtime to South Florida on Nov. 27. Marshall (5-4) seeks to halt a three-game skid, with all losses coming by single digits. The Thundering Herd fell 88-81 at Ohio on Saturday, despite a 21-point effort from guard Noah Otshudi. Otshudi has been a consistent offensive bright spot, averaging 17.2 points over his last five games. The matchup pits Western Kentucky’s efficient offense against a Marshall team searching for defensive answers. The Hilltoppers have scored at least 78 points in every game this season, while the Herd have allowed 88 or more in three of their four losses. Selebangue’s interior presence, coming off a 28-minute, 12-rebound performance, will be key for Western Kentucky against a Marshall frontcourt featuring 7-foot-4 center Matt Van Komen, who blocked five shots Saturday. For Marshall, reversing its recent fortunes will likely require more support for Otshudi. Wyatt Fricks, who scored 18 against Ohio, is a secondary scoring option who must contribute consistently. This game serves as a final tune-up before both teams dive into their conference schedules in January. Western Kentucky begins Conference USA play on Jan. 2, while Marshall opens Sun Belt Conference action on Dec. 31. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. EST Wednesday in Huntington.
