Preview: Fairleigh Dickinson Knights at Fordham Rams NEW YORK (Interstat) — The Fordham Rams look to rebound from a narrow home loss when they host the struggling Fairleigh Dickinson Knights in a non-conference men’s basketball matchup Wednesday night at Rose Hill Gym. Fordham (6-4) enters the contest coming off a frustrating 70-69 defeat to Holy Cross last Saturday, a game decided in the final seconds. The Rams had previously won three straight, including an 88-68 victory over Albany. They will be heavily favored against a Knights squad that has found wins difficult to secure against Division I competition this season. Fairleigh Dickinson (2-7) snapped a five-game skid with an 86-38 rout of non-Division I Manor on Dec. 4. However, the Knights’ seven losses have come by an average margin of 19.3 points, including a 94-64 defeat at Providence in their most recent D-I game. A key matchup will feature two versatile forwards. Fordham will rely on Rikus Schulte, who is coming off a 16-point performance against Holy Cross. The junior has been a consistent contributor, averaging 12.6 points and 5.9 rebounds over his last seven games and posting a double-double (10 points, 11 rebounds) in a win over Franklin Pierce on Nov. 28. For the Knights, all eyes will be on Cyril Martynov. The standout guard is fresh from a near-triple-double against Manor, recording 13 points, nine rebounds and 12 assists. He has scored in double figures in four of his last five games, including a 23-point outing against Saint Elizabeth and a 15-point, eight-rebound effort in a close loss to Texas A&M-Commerce. Fordham holds a distinct advantage in experience at Rose Hill Gym, playing its seventh home game of the season. Fairleigh Dickinson, based in Teaneck, New Jersey, is 0-6 in true road games, with those losses coming by an average of 22.8 points. This game represents a final tune-up for both teams before brief holiday breaks. Fordham will host Manhattan on Saturday, while Fairleigh Dickinson’s next game is against Lehman on Dec. 19. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST on Wednesday, Dec. 10.
